Beginning August 15th, people will be able to stroll around Downtown Raleigh with an alcoholic beverage in their hand.
The first social district in Raleigh was approved by the city council Tuesday afternoon.
The possibility of a social district was discussed by officials at the end of February.
The launch of the social district was something that many people were hoping would become a reality.
Starting on the Fayetteville Street area of Downtown Raleigh, business owners hope for success and to have the social district expand to areas such as Glenwood South.
In the 20 block radius around Fayetteville Street, sipping and shopping would be legal from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. daily.
Business owners and community leaders are working with the council members to make sure they have the correct details.
There will be a report on how the pilot social district is performing presented to council in early 2023 in order to see if there are any changes that need to be made.
